I tried that with the Goldenrod City Gym and the Pokémon with me managed to win. The Ecruteak City Gym is supposed to use Ghost-types though, and three of the Pokémon with me are Normal-type and have mostly Normal-type moves. They all have a few that aren't at least, and two of them have Dark-type moves, which are supposed to be strong against Ghost-type.
