[Video/Action for Mahogany Town]

[For those who pay attention to backgrounds, Apollo's sitting against a tree near the Mahogany Town PokéCenter, turning over a standard pokéball in one hand and looking a bit worried.]

Has anyone ever met a Pokémon who didn't want to come out of their pokéball and wanted to be left in the PC Box all the time? I thought that they would all want to come out as much as they could, but he doesn't. Does this happen a lot with Pokémon?

[He opens the pokéball to release...

...a Yamask that goes flying straight for the pokéball, yelling in pokéspeak as it does.]

Put me back in the PC! I don't wanna forget again! Let me in the ball!

[Apollo swings the ball around wildly for a few seconds so that the viewers can actually see the Yamask before it returns to its ball. It finally manages to get inside after a moment of that and Apollo returns his attention back to the camera.]

I found him in the PC Box when I was in Goldenrod a while ago. I think he might be the Yamask who was controlling my body before, but I don't remember catching him. The only thing that I've been able to get him to tell me is that he's afraid of disappearing or forgetting something, so he wants to stay in the PC Box because those things won't happen there? He's like this every time I try and take him out. He won't stay out long enough for me to ask him anything else.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

...Maybe he has some form of amnesia, and the PC somehow slows it down? That would outweight any appreciation for the outside world.

Amnesia? You mean like the move that Furret has? That's not a damaging move though.

I mean the sort of amnesia where people lose all their memories of the past or become unable to create new ones. It can be caused by head injuries or certain illnesses.

[Okay that's a scary thought that that could happen. Consider him a bit spooked.]

That kind of thing can happen? Does it happen to people a lot?

Not a lot, but sometimes. I've seen pilots get injured in combat and not remember the last week or year before the incident. Something similar could have happened to that Yamask.

[He looks past the camera for a bit, then focuses on Ash again.]

None of the Pokémon who are with me say that they've heard of that kind of thing happening before. If this is the same Yamask as the one that was controlling my body, it didn't seem like it was forgetting anything then. [Though Apollo has no clue what half of that stuff he was talking about even means.]

Do you know if there's any way to heal someone from amnesia?

He did seem to know exactly what he wanted.

[And was very loud about it.]

It depends on the type, severity and source of the amnesia. Normally I'd say ask the nurses to examine him, but if he panics everytime you try to take him out...

Yeah, I tried when I was in Goldenrod, and then again for the past few days while I've been in Mahogany Town, but he does the same thing every time. I put him in the healing machine at the PokéCenter this morning while he was still inside his pokéball, but it didn't change anything. I guess that I could have Fearow fly away with all my pokéballs so Yamask can't get back in, but with how he's been acting that seems kind of mean.

It would be. I couldn't hear his words, but he seemed pretty upset. If there was a way to communicate with him while he's still in the PC...

I don't think there is. I can't talk to Pokémon when they're in the PC or in a pokéball. I can't even talk to them when they're in an egg, even though I can do that with birds back home. They're different somehow.

I don't know what else to try, other than taking him out every few days and asking him to explain why he wants to stay in the PC. Maybe he'll tell me eventually.

Huh. I wonder if your Yamask has some kind of amnesia too. Mine can't remember his life as a human but he doesn't try and stay in the box all the time or anything. Strange.

But without really knowing what happens to a pokemon inside the box it's kind of hard to know for certain what the deal is.

If you could find out more about his likes and dislikes... or maybe where he comes from. He could become more talkative in a place that's more familiar to him.

I remember him being familiar with Cianwood City when he was controlling me, so he's probably from there. I'll have to fly back there once I've been paid. Hopefully the snows don't come before then. Flying while it's snowing probably wouldn't be as fun.

Hmm... Well, I don't really know much about Yamasks, but I have a Yanma who started out kind of like that. Never wanting to come out of her ball, always hiding in small places whenever I got her out of it... She's gotten a little better over time, but she still doesn't like coming out much.

[note: the Yamask part of the comment is a lie, he just doesn't want to talk about his own experience]

I didn't see any other Yamask around other than the one who was controlling me, so he's probably the same one.

Did you have a Yamask control you too?

[He didn't have the "pleasure" of seeing Yamask!Fluttershy, so that's one less person she needs to apologize to.]

I don't know what he can remember or not. I haven't been able to get him to talk yet. It sounds like he remembers something though.

Golurk was kind of like that when it first hatched too. It's still shy, but it's never panicked when I took it out of its ball and tried to get back in as fast as it could. Yamask doesn't just want to stay in his ball, he wants to stay in the PC and for me to just leave him there.

[And the lie will go undetected, because Apollo never saw that post. He's more confused by his own experience, and maybe slightly annoyed at ending up with a lighter wallet, being nauseous for a few days, and having to spend an hour or two getting all the stuff out of his hair so it would stop being spiked.]

The visibility would be terrible, at the very least, Besides, aren't Flying-types weak to Ice? That might apply to snow, too.

Being able to see is the best part about flying. [His enjoyment of his previous experiences with flight is obvious in his voice.]

I know that Fearow just getting brushed by an Ice-type attack nearly knocked him out. [A pause, glancing up and to the side.] He says he wouldn't be hurt by snow, but it would be uncomfortable and make him tired faster.

The view's always pretty nice, especially on Earth.

[Though he likes space a lot, too.]

No wonder. If it sticks to his wings it's that much weight additional weight he has to transport, and it'd get in his eyes, too.

I never knew how big the world was until I saw how small Johto was from the sky.

[Apollo will too. In less than 24 hours, his world's time, he'll be sitting in one of the cockpits of a giant robot. If and when I ever canon update him, Ash will have another pilot to talk to.]

That makes sense. It wouldn't be much better for me if I was riding him either.

And this is only a small part of a world. Then you get to space, and everything you've ever known feels tiny.

[And another to complain with about their lack of robots?]

At that speed, even the best coat wouldn't help. You'd need something that covers your whole body, and I doubt they make those for Pokémon.

Space? That's where the moon and stars and planets are, right? You can go there?

[He'll be more focused on the forest where he lived catching fire, dealing with fragmented memories of his previous incarnation, a scorned ex-lover from said incarnation showing up and being pissed that he can't remember him, the reincarnation of the lover his past incarnation dumped the ex for showing up and trying to get him to remember her and their mutual friend, who's reincarnation also showed up, the safety of his co-pilots after losing their first battle, and the aftereffects of a giant robot that, when it activates for the first time, amplifies its pilots' senses to the point that they can hear the footsteps of ants, see the entire planet and once, and witness all human suffering. Not having his robot is going to be the least of his worries.]

I don't think that Fearow would be able to fly with something on his wings.
