[Just when you thought that all the Christmas egg hatching posts were over with and everyone could focus on the new arrivals, Apollo's egg starts to hatch, and since he sees other people recording their eggs hatching he figures that some people might be interested. The miracle of birth and all that.

Now here's an egg no one's likely to recognize, though Cecil will recognize the self-warming egg pillow it's sitting on at least. The video shows that the egg is in a cave not too far from a nice fire, with a larger-than-average Fearow, a Furret, and a Growlithe watching intently, a Zangoose leaning against a plastic bin in the background, chewing on a twig and looking only vaguely interested, and what perceptive viewers might recognize as the arms and legs of a very large Golurk sitting mostly off-camera. The pokégear has obviously been propped up on something, since Apollo comes around from behind it and sits down next to the egg, which is shaking and gaining another crack every few seconds.]

I guess today is a day for eggs. Combee and Vespiquen laid some eggs while I had them out of the PC to check on them, and now the egg that appeared a while ago is finally hatching. It's too bad it didn't hatch while I was near a PC, then everyone could have seen it- [A particularly large and loud crack interrupts him and he leans a bit closer to the egg, which glows white and transforms into...

Whatever it is, it sparkles as it makes its debut. It looks around curiously as the assembled Pokémon greet it, Apollo smiling and giving a psychic greeting that doesn't get picked up by the pokégear. It continues to look around quietly for a few more seconds before...]

Arrrrrrrrr!

[With a horrible screech it uses Quick Attack, headbutting Apollo in the forehead and knocking him back, then zooming over to hit Fearow, then Furret and Firaga the Growlithe. Zangoose charges in because this situation obviously needs a woman's no-so-delicate fist, only to be hit by a Wing Attack that makes her stumble and accidentally punch Firaga. Golurk tries to grab the baby, but it's low Speed stat makes that a futile gesture at best. The baby continues to dart between the other Pokémon for a bit longer, getting them to accidentally hit each other several times, before knocking over the pokégear as it darts past and heads for the cave's entrance. Fearow passes by the camera, the look on his face unmistakable as being that of someone who's just developed a crush - if this were animated and not reality, his eyes would be big pink hearts right about now. The feed continues for a while longer, allowing the viewer to fully appreciate the cave's ceiling, before finally shutting off.]

[Just what everyone needs: more screaming fossil Pokémon. Remember how Apollo questioned whether Pokémon could really be malicious? Yeah, he does too, not that he wants to admit that he might have been wrong. When he comes on he's outside and applying chewed-up leaves to a bunch of cuts on his exposed skin. That big bruise on his forehead isn't going anywhere though.]

There aren't supposed to be any living Archen anymore, so that's probably why. The PokéGear doesn't... have... much... on... them...

[The last part is said rigidly and with a pained expression. The reason why becomes evident when Archen's beak appears and she finishes climbing onto his shoulder, using her claws to get a grip on his clothes and flesh. He leans his head away from her with a "someone please get this thing off of me" look on his face. Archen pays him no mind and screams at the PokéGear, puffing up and trying to look bigger and more threatening.]

Arrrrrrrrr! Arrrrrrrr! Ararrrrr!

[To most other Pokémon her screams are a garbled mess that vaguely sound like "INTRUDER! DOMINATE! KILL!" but if Terror's still in hearing range she'll understand it as complete sentences, though not with any deeper meanings beyond a promise to fight to the death if she has to. Archen understood Terror just fine and will not allow any competitors in her newly claimed territory. Despite being completely powerless against an Aerodactyl right now she won't submit quietly.]

Yeah, it's the same thing with Aerodactyls. I'm not even sure where Terror's egg came from--

[There's the sound of more screeching from right behind the door. Luckily, Terror's chain keeps her from actually breaking free, but there's still the distinct sound of roars that basically amount to "EAT. EAT. EAT. PREY. REAL PREY. KIIIIILL!"

Riku cringes at the sound and brings a hand to his ear.]

Ugh. What is with dinosaur Pokémon and insanity?

[Apollo gets the screaming right in his ear, consisting of more threats to Terror's health should she try anything. He winces.]

There must be a few of the Pokémon that aren't supposed to be alive somewhere laying eggs for someone to leave with us. I don't know how whoever it is got it to me though. I haven't told anyone exactly where I'm sleeping and none of us heard anything in the night.

I don't know why she's so violent. The other Pokémon with me are having trouble understanding her and when I try to talk to her it feels like a bunch of people are yelling in my ear at once. I think she's either trying to claim territory or thinks that we're all predators trying to eat her, or maybe both, but I'm not sure. Talking to her is more like talking to an animal than a Pokémon. She seems like she's acting on instinct.

Yeah, Terror's like that. Maybe it's because they're prehistoric, so their brains aren't as developed. Either way, it makes dealing with them a nightmare. All Terror seems to care about is trying to kill, maul, or maim things.

[He shudders, placing a hand over his arms. The bite marks are gone by now, but he still remembers all those injuries he got in the past.]

At least yours is small, though. Small and newly hatched.

Even though she's small she's pretty strong and fast. She'll probably be even stronger when she's older. I hope that she calms down at least a little bit by then.

[Archen tilts her head at the gear and walks down Apollo's arm to get closer to it, Apollo wincing the whole time. She knows she heard an Aerodactyl's voice coming from this strange thing, but this other strange creature is making unintelligible noises from it too. How strange. She peers at the gear for a moment, then pecks at the screen. The creature whose arm she's on is talking in her head asking her to stop that and saying weird things about sending voices far away, while the creature who was talking from the object doesn't seem to be injured. She looks around behind the gear. Nothing. What's going on?

Meanwhile Apollo is holding still, trying to psychically explain the gear to her and desperately hoping that she doesn't decide to go after his hand.]

At least you've got time to calm her down. Terror's almost two years old now, so it's probably too late to completely curb her mean streak.

[But he'll go ahead and crack the door open only for-- GYAAAAAaAAaaAaaaAaa!

Oh, and that's a Hyper Beam flying his way. With his eyes wide, Riku slams the door shut right before the beam collides. Some smoke seeps through the crack.]

That, and your Archen can't shoot lasers from her mouth.

[Archen shrieks at Terror, but she's figured out that whatever's going on with the gear Terror can't get to her. Archeops are fairly intelligent, and even though she hasn't evolved yet she isn't stupid either.

Apollo stares at the feed for a moment. He really hopes that Archen doesn't end up like that.]

Not yet at least. I don't know what she'll be able to do later though.

Well, I'd just be careful about teaching her new moves until she's better behaved. I made the mistake of souping Terror up from the start, and now she's too dangerous for her own good.

[It's one of the reasons why he's refused to teach her Earthquake and Stealth Rock; moves like that would amplify her danger levels.]

I'm not letting her use my HMs any time soon, definitely. I hope we don't run into any Move Tutors for a while either.
